CESHK Annual Conference
CESHK's Annual Conference will be held February 7-8, 2026, at the University of Hong Kong Faculty of Education. The Conference is co-organised by the Education University of Hong Kong Department of Education Policy and Leadership and the University of Hong Kong Faculty of Education and Comparative Education Research Centre.
Conflict and comparison:
How and why do we disagree?
Keynote Speakers
Call for Papers
Debates, disagreements, and differences in view are nothing new in comparative education. Yet how we can productively manage conflict interpersonally within the field is worth reflection in a so-called global age. Do we share a set of values, about diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice; about civility in dialogue and intellectual argumentation; about peer review and the importance of tolerance of different views, methodologies, and approaches?
This year’s CESHK Annual Conference focuses specifically on dialogue, disagreement, conflict, and the virtues of peer engagement and comparison. Submissions should be 1000-2000 words and address the aims of the presentation/study, its methods, and its arguments/outcomes.
The following guiding questions and sub-themes may help frame submissions:
-
What norms and values should guide disagreement in comparative education?
-
How do we teach or model disagreement in academic spaces?
-
How do we engage with opposing views while maintaining scholarly integrity?
-
How can we foster tolerance for diverse research paradigms and tools?
-
How do identity and positionality shape how and why we disagree?
-
Whose voices dominate comparative education debates, and why?
While not all submissions need to focus on this theme, this conference will be selective in identifying well-prepared submissions that speak to the theme and other vital issues in the field of comparative and global studies in education. Poster presentations on a variety of important themes are welcome.
Submissions can be for:
-
Individual presentations with one or more presenters (1000-2000 words proposal),
-
Panel discussions (3000-5000 words proposal), or
-
Posters (300-500 words proposal).
After peer review, presenters with accepted submissions will receive Acceptance Letters via email.
This year due to programme space limitations, an individual can be a presenter in no more than 2 sessions.
Presentations can be in English, Cantonese, or Mandarin/Putonghua. English and Chinese sessions will be held separately. If you wish to present in Cantonese or Mandarin/Putonghua, you must submit your abstract in written Chinese (traditional or simplified characters). Accepted presentations are not allowed to change their language of presentation after the acceptance letters are issued.
